Kinnauri Palla Shawl – Black

Product Overview

Black is the colour of mountain winters, and this shawl wears it beautifully. Woven on a traditional handloom in a deep, even black, it is finished at each end with a bold red palla, the woven border that gives Kinnauri shawls their identity. The palla carries geometric Kinnauri motifs in royal blue, white, orange and leaf green, a design language passed down through generations of weavers in the high valleys of Himachal.

The motifs are not printed or embroidered. They are woven into the fabric thread by thread, which is why a single shawl takes days of patient work at the loom. Small scattered motifs across the black body echo the border, and hand-knotted fringes finish both ends.

Wrap it over a kurta, drape it across a winter coat, or pull it close on a cold evening in the hills. The black base makes the palla stand out, so it works as easily for a wedding or festival as for everyday wear. Every shawl is made by the women artisans of Pahadan’s, and each one carries small natural variations, the mark of true handwork.

Fit & Feel
Generously sized and fluid, it drapes softly and wraps snugly without feeling heavy. The twill weave is gentle against the skin and warm enough for real Himalayan winters.

Material & Craft
80% merino sheep wool. Handwoven on a traditional handloom with an intricate Kinnauri palla border and hand-knotted fringes. Dry clean recommended; store folded in a cloth bag.

One size: approximately Length 88 inches and width 40 Inches, excluding fringes. Slight variation of ±1–2 cm is natural in handwoven pieces.
